One of the most southern islands of the glittering Ionian sea, Zakynthos makes up the perfect destination for nature enthusiasts, as it is ideal for long hikes with overwhelmingly breathtaking views of the sapphire horizon amidst lush vegetation. The endless sandy beaches, the rich musical and historical culture and the cosmopolitan, lively villages will satisfy every expectation.
Zakynthos, also known as Zante, was for many years part of the Venetian Ionian Islands and was often referred to by the Italians as "Fiore di Levante", the Levant Flower. The mild but rainy winters and the warm Mediterranean summers are behind the rich verdant vegetation. The world-renowned Shipwreck Beach, with the deepest turquoise waters, the fascinating sea caves around Keri and the protected marine parks for the endangered sea species, the Carretta Carretta turtles and the Monachus Monachus seals, are only some of the bucket-list worthy spots the island has to offer.
